Just screwy: My IP is x.x.x.189, default gateway is x.x.x.129. I screwed up and entered my subnet mask as 255.255.255.240. If you look at the bits, you'll notice that the default gateway is outside of the subnet (and therefore should be unreachable). Linux correctly spat back destination unreachable, XP on the otherhand sent out the packets and was connecting fine.
So, it's not just big errors (like reading past the end of allocated memory) that windows doesn't check. But on the other hand, just because you've generated an error condition doesn't mean the result will be wrong.
Good hearing + empty building is a bad combination. I know my computer's fans aren't any louder than they normally are, but they sure sound bad.
The new building on campus is big and twisty. There are lots of unlabled single doors which open into hallways. One is even on the corner, and runs paralell to an open hallway. It also has a roof-top lab, which contains
Rereading Sun Tzu with the commentaries. Lots of nifty stuff
Trying to write a Firetop Mountain-style spell parser. It's requires enough complex string parsing I almost want to look at Perl's C-interface and create an unholy monster.
They moved a one of the paved roads over the summer (I swear, they just shifted it 10 feet to the right for some reason). I give their new-grass two weeks before it gets trampled by people going the old way. (Now that could be an interesting science fair project...at what distance/angle/deviation do people stop using paved paths and cut across the grass?)
Tetravex is addictive. It makes me boot XFCE for no good reason.
After four years, PennState has vastly improved their network! Instead of 1.5GB/week/student they can now supply 2GB/week/student!
SOMETHING TO PUZZLE ON. In rummyq there are tiles numbered 1-13 of four colors and two of each tile (i.e. there's two black 1's, two red 1's, etc.) (there are also two jokers which are of no importance to this puzzle). Tiles can be entered into play either in groups of 3 or 4 tiles of the same value, but differing color or in sequences of the same color with 3 or more tiles (1's can also be placed after 13). The tiles in your initial play must add up to 25 or more.
What is the maximum tiles you can hold and still be unable to open (i.e. how much space do I need to reserve in the player's hand to ensure that I've covered the worst case?) |
